What’s The Difference Between UPS & Inverter?

2019-07-09

The Uninterruptible Power Supply, or UPS, is the acronym for this device. It features a built-in battery that, in the event of an irregular power grid, can continually provide a backup AC power supply for load equipment like electrical appliances to sustain the functionality of those items.

The backup ups will immediately supply power to the load from the mains supply when the mains supply is operating normally. The change-over switch will convert the mains supply to a battery inverter power source when it is out of its operating range or there is a power outage.

In a standard mains supply setup for an online UPS, the mains supply rectifies to deliver DC power to the inverter, which then delivers AC to the load. Battery power keeps the inverter running even when there is a problem with the mains supply, ensuring uninterrupted output.

An electronic circuit known as an inverter converts DC to AC. It does not produce electricity; instead, the battery provides the necessary power. The inverter's output can be square, sine, or pulsed, and its input voltage is a constant DC power source. The circuit and design of the inverter determine the sine wave. The inverter's output wave maintains the same frequency as the standard frequency, which is 50 or 60 Hz.
